The Implementation of School Uniform Policies - 649 Words

The institution of mandatory uniform policies in schools across the United States would prove advantageous in a myriad of areas such as violence and crime prevention, cost effectiveness, as well as academic performance and unity within the student body. Schools and school districts that have implemented such ordinances have experienced exceedingly satisfactory outcomes. Violence and crime rates have radically diminished. Parents who are feeling the effects of the economic recession have been able to worry less about being able to afford to buy school clothes. Students’ grades and attention levels have increased a great deal. School uniforms are undoubtedly beneficial in improving not only schools, but American society as a whole. The implementation of school uniform policies has proven to be vastly effective in the reduction of violence and disciplinary problems in a multitude of schools across the nation. Former president, Bill Clinton supported the growing number of schools requiring students to wear uniforms when he said in his State of the Union address of 1996, â€Å"If it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms† (Boutelle).
